Artist Advocate for Instituto Vida Livre
I am donating this watercolor to the non-profit organization called Instituto Vida Livre, based in the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, for use in their fundraising campaign. Their mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release wild animals. Some of the animals are rescues that were injured in the city and bay area by cars, stray kite strings, and other urban dangers. Others are rescues of wildlife trafficking smuggled in pretty terrible conditions. The economy in Brazil is not doing well and the illegal wildlife trade is not slowing down. So to keep feeding and fixing up the animals, they are applying for international grants. These grants will take some time to receive, so they are bridging the funding gap by holding a crowdfunding campaign. Artists (like me) are donating images of the animals so they can create prints/cards/stickers/t-shirts as incentives for people to make donations. This image is to convey a message of "a free life" (vida livre, in Portuguese). Maybe in a few months we will see this on a sticker or t-shirt and the animals will be helped in the process! Check out their website and facebook page for more information and images of the beautiful animals they are helping!
