No jazz in space?
Rhythms of Spice is an annual jazz event held at Prickly Bay Marina. The Grenada Arts Council is sponsoring a one day pop up show to coincide with the event and I will be participating, even painting during some of the performances! I love listening to jazz. Even though I do not play a musical instrument anymore, I still very much appreciate the framework needed or the fundamentals needed in order to play jazz. I began these paintings thinking about the treble clef and how the names of the space notes are an acronym for FACE. This idea is taught to musicians at a very young age in order to help them memorize the treble clef note names. Space and face seemed to be the one idea that stuck with me when I was brainstorming what to paint. I don't have synesthesia (the wiring of the brain to see music as shapes or color), but to me, these are the shapes and colors I see when listening to jazz music here in the Caribbean, and interpreting what the foundations of music means to me. I can't wait to listen to some amazing music and see what the other local artists are going to show!
