Balance of the arts: collage to utilize time during blueprint process

The blueprint process involves a few steps and many days. Once I have decided what to print, it takes a day in the dark room to mix the chemicals, get it down on the paper and then dry over night. Once the treated paper is exposed in sunlight with objects on top, I wash out the chemicals to stop the blueprint process. It then takes another day or so to dry. From there, I am able to paint or draw on top of the prints. While my blueprints are drying, I am creating a Mexican/Caribbean inspired sugar skull collage. I find that collage is a great way to re-use paper, cardboard, and packaging material that would otherwise end up in the landfill. This is a small way to do my part to re-use and recycle in a country with no recycling facility. All of the meticulous cutting and gluing, attention to detail and problem solving during collage gets me in a very zen-like state of mind. Both printmaking and collage help me practice the art of patience! Can't wait to see how these two very different projects turn out.
