'Alien' at the Grenada Contemporary

The Grenada Contemporary art show opened on October 27th. I participated in the group show with over 30 different artists. We were called on to interpret what the one word "WestIndian" means. What if the Caribbean region was one? In my attempts to answer this, I examined my own experiences thus far of living in the region. I took a sketch that I made about a year ago and made it into a cyanotype. My piece is titled, 'Alien' and is a fantastical idea of oneness. She is unique and different from everything around her. An unabashed figure, a foreign national, an alien. Someone at the opening night said she was the female personification of the sea--a sea goddess. I appreciate the work created by the other artists and the way the show was curated at Susan Mains Gallery.
