objects during exposure
This is what it looks like when I make my cyanotypes. Outside on my porch, I place coins, leaves, sea glass, bracelets, sea fans and other found objects on top of the chemicals I painted down on paper. Cyanotype is a form of contact printing, meaning that the objects have to touch the surface of the paper. This exposure took about 10 minutes. I remove the objects and bring the print inside to rinse out the chemicals. Anywhere the objects blocked the sun wash out to white, while the areas exposed to sunlight turn a beautiful shade of blue.
