a deconstructed kite in the trees
Kite flying is a Grenadian pastime. I love spotting kites flying high in the sky, and more so I enjoy scanning the hillsides in the dry season for kite strings and remnants of kite tails caught up in the treetops. I love following the lines with my eyes and tracing the kite string and kite tail paths until I cannot decipher what is a kite and what is a power line or series of branches far off in the distance. I installed my piece titled, 'You Are Here', high in the trees at La Luna resort to represent playful wonderment, and to remind visitors to take a moment to look and see, to imagine and play. I intentionally made my kite a single equilateral triangle shape, which is just one piece or part of a traditional hexagonal mad bull kite typical of the Caribbean.
